- wa_desert_ratExplorerChrysler should probably not tinker with the Wrangler too much. My little TJ has the combination of light weight, small footprint, and MANUAL transmission that makes it useful to me. Push the weight up too much and I'll start to get over my GCVW.
Not that I'd be likely to pay the $40k they'd want for the new one anyway (unless the DW wins the lottery).
Jeep has a clear winner right now. The 13-year-old girl who used to hide her face when I picked her up from middle school now waves to her pals from the TJ and calls her mom to ask her to tell me to get her at least once a week.
When 13-year-old girls think it's cool to ride in a Jeep even if the driver is 71 years old, that, boys and girls, is marketing! :P
WDR - HeisenbergExplorerThe diesel in the 1/2 ton Ram would help with mileage. Their sales are as good as they have ever been right now. The 3.6 Pentastar is really quick and mine has been getting 19ish in my mixed driving. 20 mpg feels really good after filling the Winnie.

as far as I know as of today everything but the manual tranny is made right here in the USA. the manual tranny is mfg in brazil and the vehicles are assembled in Toledo, OH. - fullautodaveExplorerI read somewhere that they will be built in China. Maybe just a rumor.

"The iconic utility vehicle is slated to be fitted with an eight-speed automatic transmission that will ease its fuel consumption."
I think we want the fuel consumption "decreased" not increased! either way it is good for the Wrangler. and I`m sure it will still have a selectable T-case.
Opps... open mouth, insert foot. :o
Ya, OK! So I read it fast at lunch!!! :S it looked like it said "increase". That`s what I get for being a smart ...! :R - lanerdExplorer II

Hopefully the JEEP WRANGLER will retain the TRANSFER CASE it shouldn't be a problem... I kick my 99 Jeep Wrangler drive shaft out of gear and nothing spins up in the transmission when being towed... Better gas mileage would be a PLUS for me..

same here. we usually tow our '10 Liberty KK but still pull the '03 Wrangler TJ now and then. - rk911Explorer

It says "ease its fuel consumption", not "increase its fuel consumption", as you implied.
Gotta watch those first few letters. :)
