Yup, beauty is in the eye of the beholder for sound. Most folks could care less as long as the music they like to hear is at least audible without a great deal of high frequency interference.
I muck around a pretty good bit with sound and hifi. I build electronics for myself and those that most would consider audiophiles. I also have a fairly good audio system in my truck, more than most folks would have.
When you start to install to anything in the higher end of things, you find out that it is a whole lot of work to get from 95% good to 100% astounding. The other thing is that what one guy likes may not appeal to another.
FWIW, I was invited to the local audiophile society to show one of my amp case designs, members there were about to embark on a group amp building effort. At the meeting was also a custom speaker builder auditioning his top-of-the-line speaker system ($45K). These were really incredible stereo speakers and the audiophile society had top shelf electronics to drive them. I listened along with others and then took a break. I asked one of the guys what he thought of the speakers and he replied,"Nice speakers but not enough bass". Each of these speakers had two 15" cone woofers. It's not always about which one is better but what one likes to hear from the music.
