City bans camping gear in your vehicle - $1000 fine

Video from YouTuber and full timer Nomadic Fanatic.

Better not get caught with camping gear in your vehicle in Lacey, Washington. The homeless population has made it so bad that anyone period, pulled over with camping gear in their vehicle can get a $1,000 fine.

Nomadic Fanatic is from Lacey and was there to close out his PO Box. He mentioned a friend whom resides there was fined for having a sleeping bag in his back seat of his car.

The wording of the law makes no exceptions for travelers, motor homes, campers, travel trailers, someone going to an outdoor concert or your kids outdoor sporting event and carrying lawn chairs and a cooler, etc.

It's ironic that they have operating campgrounds in town along with many outdoor recreational stores that sell camping equipment including Gander Mountain.
  • So was this buddy a homeless guy living in his car?

These are the kind of laws that are normally used as a tool. If you look like you are homeless and planning to take up residence, they will use it. If you look like a tourist just passing thru, they won't.

Kind of like, they can technically ticket every speeder...but normally, the police use judgement and only ticket those who show risky behavior...normal driver doing 3mph over, they let it go...aggressive driver doing 20mph over, they get a ticket.
  • This guy must also report for MSNBC. FAKE News! It's a ban on homeless camping. Google it. Read the text of the ordinance passed. The city passed it but as of yet does not know how to enforce it. It does not affect real campers or rv'ers going for a weekend camp out who are not planning on setting up residence in their tent.

You're late to the party bud, but nice try. The rvnet conspiracy theorists already beat this subject like a redheaded stepchild

This, IMHO, is the issue. First, What is the difference between "homeless" staying in a car and a "Full timer" in a RV? Now you can get your panties in a wad if you want, but the only answer is MONEY And the idea of fining somebody that can't pay rent is evil.
Then there is the issue, a cop does not like my looks, so I get a ticket? After all, I always have a blanket, a snack and bottle of water in the vehicle, and in the summer, a lawn chair lives in the pickup...
