One reason to do a good thorough cleaning of your blank tank is because the sensors never get cleaned off and always read wrong. Our owner's manual says to use Liquid Drano. We've used it once or twice a season for 3 seasons now and no ill effects. Does an excellent job of getting the tank and sensors spotless. I can't see the manufacturer saying to use Liquid Drano if it is harmful to the tank. Make sure if you use an equivalent product that it says it's not harmful to metal or plastic. Liquid Plumr states that is safe to use in an RV.
We installed Horst Miracle probes when we first got our TT and they get gummed up as quickly as the OEM button sensors. Our built-in flusher just doesn't reach the sensors. Many flushers, wands and back-flushers can't get close enough to the sensors to adequately clean them and a more thorough cleaning is needed. Some tanks are worse than others to flush & clean due to shape, size and outlet & sensor locations (like our current TT). Our 1st TT had a black tank that was a breeze to flush and just needed a short blast of back-flushing and nothing else.
