We didn't workamp this summer and traveled. A little over 4,700 miles on the truck and trailer. Had more close calls then I can remember. Main ones were in states with two speed limits. 55 mph with anything with two or more axles or if you are towing something, and everyone else can go 65 plus. This happened on two lane roads. I'd try to pull over if I could find a safe place, but for most car drivers it wasn't fast enough. They would pass me on curves with vehicles coming the opposite, would pass me in no passing zones, on hills with vehicles coming from the opposite direction. Being higher up in a HDT helped a lot, so I could slow down and let the idiots by but still were more close calls then I liked. Two speed limits are STUPID!!
This is why I tend to ignore the posted speed limit on out two lane roads to the coast, feel it is far safer for all if I am traveling the same speed as the rest traffic (at least most of it) then not really a reason to pass me. They will speed up to 70+ in a 55 zone to get by me in a passing lane, even though I will be traveling at 60 in the same 55 zone.
This is also the reason I have enough truck to pull the hills at the speed limit or better.
