I think it shows good integrity, for this site and for Dianne personally, that she lets this discussion take place publicly. I missed the posts that were deleted, but I understand that sometimes is necessary. Some mods in some other forums, would just not allow any policy discussion at all. I prefer being treated as adults :).
I want to make it clear to all: I do not know Diane nor do I have any axe to grind with her personally. This is simply a disagreement about how this is moderated. It is a disagreement over judgement and the actions taken. I am sure Diane is a very nice person who means well and does what she thinks is right. I am hoping that she will reconsider her position on this. If she has the integrity you think she has I am sure she will. In any case nothing can be harmed from giving the benefit of the doubt.
When I was in upper management at a Fortune 100 company I would sense when morale was decreasing among my departments. I instituted a policy where we would hold a department-wide meeting to criticize ME and my policies. There were just a few rules: it must be civil at all times.Only one person could speak at a time. There would be no retaliation of any kind. I would take into consideration all views and I listened and rarely commented. This turned out to be one of the smartest moves I ever made as a Manager.
I dont think it takes integrity to let a discussion like this take place as much as it takes understanding that you may not have all the good ideas. It takes an open mind. I never once held a meeting like the one I describe above without learning something valuable. And changing something I was doing.
