We've used it on 2 brand new toads since 2005 and have not had any paint problems. First was a Chevy Colorado and the current 2011 Silverado. That's over 140,000 tow miles. We go to Alaska every other year so we see more than our share of dust, dirt and rocks.
Yes, you do have to take it off and clean it. We run about 10 days to Alaska and take it off to clean when we get there. Otherwise it stays on for that leg of the trip. To clean we lay on a picnic table, spray it front and back with a hose and let dry.
Don't know about their management problems, but they custom made the one for the Silverado in 2011 and for 2 new Tiffin Allegro Buses.
