I know this thread is being hi-jacked now, but it does seem like the OP got his answer.
Yep, that is a beautiful place I held off going there because I figured it wouldn't be. They also have an RV park there which was completely empty when I was in the area.
The other thing in that area is the very last remaining Route 66 Drive In. I had the pleasure of visiting with the owner, and talking about his passion for racing slant 6 225 Mopar engines.
He's putting the drive in back into pristine condition and we really had a wonderful Norman Rockwell night when we saw a movie there. I forgot all about parking on the shoulder of the road waiting to be let in :). For us it was one of the high lights of the trip back north that we would never had had if we didn't get stuck in Carthage due to snow.
