The white hose is specifically designed for potable water, a garden hose can contain impurities and leave a taste. Besides, you don't want to accidently use the one for rinsing the waste tanks.
Why not use CLEAR see thru water hose,,
would make it easy to see that its clean inside..

Water Hoses labeled for 'safe' drinking are supposed to be lower in lead than garden hoses. Look for hoses labeled 100% free from toxic chemicals commonly found in garden hoses, such as lead, BPA, or phthalates (plasticizers).
BUT, note that unfortunately the 'cheap china connections' they put on most of these safe water drinking hoses are usually loaded with lead. I.E. camco RV hose.:R

- wa8yxmExplorer IIITHe color of the hose is whatever the maker wishes it to be. Typically they use WHITE for Fresh water (Potable water) but there is no "Standard" just "Tradition".
I do use color coded hoses here
White = Fresh water, so does clear
Green, Flush/Wash, Water the lawn.. Mop the roof
Gray.. I have three waste tanks. Black and Gray 1 are tied at the main dump port "Gray 2" really wash is at a distance. It is for the Shower and main bath lavs only. IT gets a GRAY hose.
I have a portable macerator.. BLACK HOSE - BumpyroadExplorera while back there was a thread about an electric/remote/magic phone shut off for the water supply, if somebody is really anal about this leaving it on.
bumpy - down_homeExplorer IIThe cheap white hoses blow apart and most usually at the connectors, if there is much pressure at the parks. They are not lined and thin and that lets sunlight do its work and algae grows. I found ours a long time ago, when we came back from eating out had been spewing water for some tine. We were sitting in a very large pool of water. Why no one volunteered to shut it off, I don't know.
On the net you could find lined heavy duty drinking water hose with silver in the lining and heavy duty stainless fittings. 50 ft was then the minimum order and a bit expensive. We stumbled upon lined blue hose at RV factory store with stainless ends. About 50.00 I think. Since then we have seen some similar with a waxy feel and they have plated aluminum heavy duty appearing ends or just plain aluminum. That waxy Chinese stuff.. we bought a Cb and it stayed in the box in the RV for some time. The waxy plastic of the mike cord rotted in the box. We've had it tool long to return it. Our hose is a little stiff the newer ones I described are very hard to coil. - Old-BiscuitExplorer III

OP here.
I don't ever plan on hooking up water and have it pressurizing my system. It is only to fill the tank and then put it away, out of the sun.
That is a good plan.
I don't hookup to city water connection either
Use to but back in 2008 a $.50 fitting broke and flooded my 5th wheel while sleeping....$6000 repairs/costs
So it has been fresh water tank/pump ever since
BUT I still use a POTABLE water hose to fill tank with
When I am hooked to city water I always turn the water off at the site when I am going to be gone for a few hours or more.
Do you do that also when you go to sleep?????
We turned it off when we left but not when we went to bed or even if sitting outside under the awning.
Now we just FLIP a switch...pump on/pump off SIMPLE - Deb_and_Ed_MExplorer III'm kind of a "water-quality wonk"; but still filled my freshwater tank with a well-flushed garden hose at home (because the white one wasn't long enough). I usually drink bottled water while camping - so whatever cooties might come into my freshwater system weren't really a problem.

One portable is white and one is grey. OTOH, didn't we drink out of a green hose when we were kids?
I have a white potable water hose and a blue potable water hose. I also happen to have a white (albeit with a stripe) ordinary garden hose, and a nice black one.
My non-portable ones are primarily hard copper. :B
