Conflicting Info From Mazda Company and Mechanics:

I have a 1996 Mazda MPV automatic transmission. Not a 4 wheel drive.
It's like a mini-mini van with 3 doors and a hatchback.

Machine in front: 1986 Pace Arrow 33 (?) 36 (?) foot.

A Mazda engineer told me I could tow it on a dolly with roof rack carrying kayaks, no problem.
But he had to ask someone and get back to me..? odd.

Mechanic told me no.

Internet said it doesn't need a dolly.

Any input would be great.
Thank you.

Isn't it always better to tow something 4 down if it can be done?

It can be easier to hook up four down.

The advantages of a good tow dolly are pretty significant.

#1 is that there is no modifications to the towed vehicle
#2 the dolly has its own tail lights and brakes

When we were considering going to a Motorhome I was strongly considering an ACME dolly

There is nothing wrong with either method, dolly or four down.

Four down means you don't have to deal with the dolly at the campground. That was one of the reasons I wanted the Acme, it's light weight and built tough.

One more thing about towing four down...you must have supplemental braking to stay legal and you have to have working tail lights.

On edit it seems the MPV is a rear wheel drive, is this correct? If so you will need to disconnect the driveshaft to tow on a dolly or four down. Sounds like you are looking a a full trailer or a drive shaft disconnect system if they make one.

    Thanks!

You might want to check with Remco. I don't think that you can tow it 4 down.

Remco sais it has to be on a trailer. No dolly.

    grrrr! This is quite exhausting.
It's in the shop getting about $1500 worth of work done on it right now so I have a vehicle for work while I'm in the rv.
Due to unforeseen circumstances, I'm moving into the rv no later than April 30 and hitting the road full time.

I feel like I'm running out of time. A dolly can be quite expensive here in California.
