Converting a weber grill

Can anyone tell me how to convert a Weber Q100 grill to connect to the propane service provided with my fiver?
  • I'v e done it. Just unscrew the regulator and use a couple of brass fitting to connect the male end of a quick disconnect fitting. Then use an extension hose to connect to the trailer.
I have three 10' and one five foot hose.

When you unscrew the original regulator, you end up with a 1/8" male NPT sticking out.
I used a brass quick disconnect fitting like the one below except I drilled it out and re-tapped the end for 1/8" NPT female (becasue I was too cheap to buy the right fitting).

Rather than have to tap, you can easily get a single brass fitting to connect the grill's fitting to the quick disconnect. It would need to be 1/8" NPT female on one end and 1/4" NPT female on the other. Here is one on Amazon: link but any H/W store would have one at a fraction of that cost.

    I ended up with this:

I've done the same mod on my fire pit and camp stove.
    It is wonderfully convenient!

Note: all propane appliances/accessories run off the same "pressure" propane so this works perfectly.
  • Here's a video on it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fjCeW5s7wvk

I didn't buy these folks kit as I already had the hose, just picked up the brass adapter. But it's done the same way. The adapter needed would depend on what you have for a hose, mine doesn't use a quick connect on the grill end, only takes a couple seconds to screw it on.
  • Go to your local RV dealer where they may have a conversion kit to allow you to use the grill with your the propane connection on your RV. I have a portable grill that used small propane bottles. I picked up a conversion kit at my RV dealer that consisted of a new regulator and a hose from the regulator to the propane connection on my RV at the outside kitchen. The way I have it now, I can use the grill either way.

Yes. if the 5er has fixed tanks you get a "Stay-A-While" (Formerly known as an Extend-a-Flow when Marshall Brass made 'em) adapter. this goes between the mounted tank and the regulator and adds both a "Quick Connect" outlet and an inlet so you can
1: Hook up an extension hose and feed your webber exactly as though you were using a throw away propane bottle. only it's the 100 pound tank on the RV.

or 2 Use a 25 (or 50) pound luggable to feed the RV when the 100 runs dry.

For removable tanks you go with the "Extend-a-Flow" (Do not know what they are calling it today) also adds the "Grill" feature, but no inlet since you can take the tank to the refill station.

Grill works just like it had it's own disposable bottle attached, RV works normally as well. No other modification needed.
  • The key point is you must remove the regulator from the weber. The regulator on the propane tanks on the 5ver will work to control the pressure for the grill. The grill will not work with 2 regulators.

I put a quick release on the weber and on the regulator so I can just snap the regulator back on if I want to use a bottle. Plus have the fittings to use a 5 gal propane bottle or one of the mini cylinders. Everything fits inside the weber with the lid closed for storage.
  • the key is to take the regulator off of the weber if the coach line you are hooking up to is post coach regulator. double regulators will cause you to take 8 hrs to cook a burger;)
