Yes, that does put it in perspective, but we don't simply refuse to deal with things that have the potential to kill people because other things kill more people.
Interesting comment considering:
How many car deaths in the US each year?
For 2016 specifically, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) data shows 37,461 people were killed in 34,436 motor vehicle crashes, an average of 102 per day. In 2010, there were an estimated 5,419,000 crashes, 30,296 deadly, killing 32,999, and injuring 2,239,000.
What, specifically, are we doing to reduce those numbers such as shutting down roads as a similar example. The amazing thing is that next year there will be a vaccine for covid-19, but next year we will once again kill 37000 people with cars.
Or are vehicles exempt from your comment because they are necessary.
We are continuously trying to make cars safer. Seat belt use hasn't always been mandatory, air bags have not always been standard equipment, side curtain air bags and crush zones are all efforts to make cars safer.
We are now experimenting/adding self braking cars. The ultimate goal being self driving cars. Bottom line we are constantly making efforts to improve cars.
As to the Flu there are vaccination campaigns every year. WE now vaccinate at your local pharmacy. Easy access vaccinations has not always been the case. Again we make efforts to educate and control the flu. We do not just sit back and let it happen.
This same logic is applied to Covid -19 we know its coming, we see the potential for deaths, we are not just going to sit back and let it happen. We understand we can't beat it, but we can have an impact if we act vs. doing nothing and pretending it's just the flu.
Italy took a laid back approach and their mess is real. Hospitals are overwhelmed and people are dying.
I agree the economy is going to suffer however economies can recover. Lots of grandmas and grandpas won't recover, which is what all the fuss is about
