Cost of staying connected.......

We just returned from a trip around the country and up to Alaska....For too many of those days we were devoid of any contact with the digital world. While at home it cost around 300 bucks a month for cable, internet, and cell phone service........I am thinking I can reduce that cost by going with satellite tv and a different cell service plus a mobile hot spot. I think these options would work great at home but am not sure about how they would work out while traveling. I just need to reduce our costs.......Some real life experiences would be appreciated.....

I hear your pain... My monthly fee for three cell phones, medium speed Internet connection, standard telephone service, a second mobile internet connection, a dialup internet connection, anti-virus programs fees, both cable TV and low end SAT connections, etc... is around $450 a month here...

Even with all of this I still suffer big time when downstreaming TV signals.

Yesterday I heard VERIZON has just bought out the MILLENICOM ACCOUNTs. Don't know yet how much this is going to change my monthly cost.

  • Wow! 225 a month for cell service. Thats a lot.
Currently we have VZW home phone connect, two smart phones, and a mifi all for around 180 a month with 8GB data. If we were doing it again, we could save 40 dollars a month by dropping the home phone and mifi.
  • Real life: (prices are per mo)

2 Verizon smart phones with 10G shared data, hot spots = $235
    Directv HD, 2 DVRs = $ 125

You will have a bit of a struggle beating $300 by much.
