CR-V toad

I have a question for those of you who have a Honda CR-V toad. We had a fuse switch installed so the radio and navigation panel wouldn't run the battery down when we pull our 2012 CR-V. When we returned home we flipped the fuse switch to restore power. I cannot get the radio to work now. The owner's manual doesn't provide much help for this issue. Any ideas?
  • Hubby installed a fuse bypass switch in our 2014 CR-V.

More than likely the wired jiggled loose while you were driving. Check around and reseat anything loose.

Did the radio not work after the first time you used the switch? If the radio worked after using the switch prior to this, then you probably have a blown fuse. If it has never worked, then you might want to get someone competent to look at the installation.

Also, the switch turns off power to the 12V outlet formerly called the cigarette lighter. Do you still have power there? If not, see the above recommendations. If you do have 12V, look at possible problems with the radio.

    Hope this helps!
  • Check all 3 fuses. The owners manual says to pull (or switch off) fuse 19 (interior fuse panel) a 7.5amp fuse. This apparently controls the I-mid system, blue tooth clock, compass radio controls. Also check interior fuse #25 10amp for the audio system. There is also another fuse in the engine compartment #13 20amp for the premium audio system.

Before I installed the charge line, I pulled the audio fuse #25 (by mistake),it turned the radio off, but the I-mid display still worked, compass, clock and Bluetooth phone audio all worked.

  • Honda has an anti theft device installed in the radio. If someone steals your radio it won't work for them when they power it back up until they put in the proper "radio code". That is what you are doing, you are switching off the power to the radio and when you restore or repower the radio, you need to enter the radio code into the radio and it will then work. If you can't find the radio code attached to your owners manual you can take your VIN number to any Honda dealer and they can look it up on their computer. Write it down for future reference because every time you turn that switch OFF and back ON you will need to enter that code again. Same thing if you disconnect the battery for any reason. So find the code or make a trip to the Honda dealer.
  • As ron above alluded to, the switch likely shorted the fuse that was installed with the switch. Maybe it's wired incorrectly. In any case, check that fuse first.

  • First question would be does the clock work? If yes, all the suggestions above would be appropriate. If no clock, means no power to radio; possibly remote switch has disconnected from fuse block. I suppose it is possible the remote switch, which has an inline fuse in it, is blown. I might suggest you bring the car to whoever installed the switch to troubleshoot if above fails.

Or if there's no power to it at all, I dunno.

The code should be in the vinyl pouch that contains the handbook. Turn the radio on and it should request the radio code.

If you can't find it in the glove compartments, don't forget you have a storage drawer under the passenger seat. We made a 3x5 card with the transmission tow routine and it includes the code number.

  • I'd like to help, but we had a charge cord installed from the MH to our 2014 CR-V to keep things charged while on the road. We didn't want to remove the fuse or remember to operate the fuse switch.

Is there 12v DC power to other accessories and systems in the CR-V? You have probably already checked the fuses/circuit breakers/relays. I haven't chased down all of the options, but there seems to be more diverse locations for these than there should be?

    Good luck.
