I'm surprised the policy wasn't the other way around: "If your rig is a 30 amp rig, you can't use a 50 amp site."
If it has it, I prefer to use the 50 receptacle instead of the 30 receptacle in a campsite I'm camping in (I have a 30-to-50 amp adapter). I'm more assured that I won't get so much voltage drop at my site from other air conditioners running all around the campground in hot weather. ;)
Youre really not assured of any benefit other than maybe the 30 amp recepetacle may have less wear from use....or maybe not. Or it may make you feel better.
Read CA Travelers post. In addition they do not wire a 3 way pedestal with individual circuits back to the distribution for the 50 amp, 30 amp, and 20 amp recetacles. They wire for 50 amp, then jumper off that for the 30 amp and 20 amp. You can only get so much poop through a goose.
In any case youre still limited by your rigs 30 amp load center and breaker. Once the entire circuit is used to the point of causing an issue, such as high occupancy with rigs running everything they can, it doesnt really matter what receptacle you use. Its still the same end result.
