I'm surprised the policy wasn't the other way around: "If your rig is a 30 amp rig, you can't use a 50 amp site."
If it has it, I prefer to use the 50 receptacle instead of the 30 receptacle in a campsite I'm camping in (I have a 30-to-50 amp adapter). I'm more assured that I won't get so much voltage drop at my site from other air conditioners running all around the campground in hot weather. ;)
Generally, they will lean towards putting you into a 30amp site and there is typically a cost premium that discourages 30amp rigs from using 50amp sites.
Of course some will be willing to pay the cost premium as 50amp sites are often bigger and more conveniently located.
As it's really only an issue when the park is packed, as long as all the sites are sold at full price...why would they care who uses that last site if it isn't causing problems? (50 on 30 causes problems, 30 on 50 doesn't cause problems)
