You don't have to have been a business owner who earned enough money to have an RV with 50A service. My wife and I just bought our first 5th wheel camper. It's nothing fancy (Forest River Salem Hemisphere GLX 286RL). It lists for 50K and we were able to buy it for 35K and then had equity with our trade in travel trailer. So it was very manageable. It has all LED lighting, one 13,500btu air conditioner, one microwave etc., one 12v battery. The only additional electrical amenities are a ceiling fan and an electric fireplace heater which we doubt we will ever use. Not much heat comes out of it so the regular furnace will be just fine. I also fully understand a campground owner setting rules and having to abide by them. It's their campground. They can do whatever they want, including telling a customer to leave for no reason at all. That's their rights as the owners. But because our 5th wheel comes with the ability to add a 2nd air conditioner and has washer/dryer hookups in case we would ever want to install those appliances, it comes with 50A service. It puts us at a further disadvantage. Not only are many sites not available to us because of the size of a 5th wheel, we also have to limit ourselves to 50A sites within those campgrounds that we can fit. That narrows down the possibilities quite a bit. If a campground has 10 50A sites and they are all booked and 100 30A sites, 75 of those still being available, we're not able to camp there. If we had known this was an issue while shopping for a new RV, we would have made a different choice but I think 50A RV's are going to be more the norm than the exception as time goes on. Most everyone that "goes glamping" enjoys all the amenities of home which means using a lot of power. Not that big a deal for campground owners right now. There are still many more 30A RV's out there than 50A so it's not that much of an issue. They just deny them access, but sooner rather than later campground owners are going to have to do something different. As soon as their not filling up their sites like they always have and it effects their bottom line, changes will be made. 50A RV's are only going to become more popular. Not to mention that RV manufacturers can charge a lot more money just by providing a little extra Pex line for a washer/dryer hookup, installing a ceiling fan and putting in a fake fireplace. Then they add the 50A service. People love that stuff. Very little additional cost for the manufacturer and they then charge several thousands more for the RV.
