It's probably not long enough to go completly thru the double wall area and have enough thread left to tighten the nut down. Their solution is to drill the 3/8 inch hole thru both firewalls. Then enlarge the inside hole so you can tighten down the inside nut with a socket
It just depends on how much of a gap there is between the two walls.

It seems that there would have to be quite a space between the walls to require all that and like I said, we had plenty to work with on the older Jeep. My Wrangler is just a single wall, so no thought required for it's install.
