Due to having my right foot rebuilt 'twice' I spent little over 2 yrs using crutches.
Just a couple of things to consider:
*Both underarm crutches and forearm crutches require upper body strength, though forearm crutches require a bit more from the user.
*It is vitally important that crutches be properly fitted to the user. You should be able to stand up straight comfortably with a crutch.
Elbow crutches are recommended for long-term use. The handgrips need to be level with your wrist bone. Some also have an adjustment for the elbow cuff, which should cradle your forearm just below the elbow joint.
Underarm crutches are usually given for short-term use. To fit, stand up in your shoes and adjust its height so the under arm pad is two finger widths under your armpit. Then adjust the handgrip so it’s level with your wrist bone
Body weight should not be carried by armpit..never damage can occur
*Wearing a pair of cycling gloves helps protect your hands from blisters.
