Camping with teen on crutches

When I broke my ankle and was told to put zero weight on, my HMO sent a physical therapist to the house to teach me how to live with that.

Also, I bought myself a knee scooter. I think they are also often for rent. Best thing ever! With it, I could stand up and move around much more freely than with crutches. If he gets one of those, but sure he keeps the speed down! After too long being immobile, the temptation is to let go, wheeeee down the hall, not good.

Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain, GA comes to mind. Can take car and drive through park.. Tough with no being able to put any weight on leg. Pine Mountain Campground is nice.

Knee scooter is a great idea.

We thought of a knee scooter, we are thinking more of activities than getting around. He's pretty capable on a pair of crutches.

If he's mobile try museums or a tour where you sit most of the time. Anything in an arena like a ball game, rodeo or concert or even a movie would require just sitting but would offer entertainment.

Video game console. Who do what you want and he will be entertained for hours.

14 yrs old....ankle surgery.

Well lets see....keep weight off, no activities that would encourage putting weight on ----ankle heals/surgery successful

Having been that kid myself........total rebuild right foot. Casts....three separate ones cause it is REALLY difficult as a kid to NOT bear weight when pain becomes tolerable.

What's better..a slightly bored kid whose ankle heals quickly WITHOUT complications OR one that goes and participates and swears/promises to not bare weight.

Boredom is short lived.....just saying!

Less activities the better. Let it heal properly.

You mentioned a boat, does he like to fish? How about making him the designated cook for the weekend, especially dutch oven cooking will keep him occupied for long periods of time.

He could be the spotter for tubing, or (if the law permits) the boat driver. You could also look for accessible hiking trails, which would be entirely doable with crutches as they're at least theoretically doable with a wheelchair.
