Curt TruTrack - grease bar hangers?

Is it common practice or even recommended to put a bit of lubricant on the bar hangers for the Curt TruTrack WD hitch? Two camping trips so far, both within a couple hours of our house and there is already clear signs of friction and rubbing both on the bracket and the bar. I read a few articles that suggest friction is not a key part of the sway control so it makes me wonder if putting a bit of lubricant on those brackets would help with the occasional popping and friction related wear and tear.

Thanks!

  • yes. clean, lube, and keep clean and greased up. grease is cheap as the mechanics say. metal on metal means quick wear and short life.
the big issue is that grease attracts dirt and the dirt (sand) will also cause wear. So, keep it clean and with fresh grease. The big semi's always clean and grease their 5th wheel trailer connection.
On these WD bars the grease will not stay on there long.
  • You will probably have to contact Curt mfg and ask. I looked at the installation sheet and there is no mention of greasing the L brackets, only the pivots at the hitch head.
