Dead Battery on dingy roadmaster setup

I have a Roadmaster allterain tow setup to my Ford Focus. Had it installed at the dealer and after my first 200 mile tow the battery is dead on the dingy. I think it is because I have to have the key on in the car while it is being towed. s the wring from the motorhome suppose to be charging the car battery while connected? Any ideas how to alleviate this issue? Maybe it's my mistake perhaps I don't need the key on.

Thanks for any input you may have.

  • I also had the same problem, the Even Brake uses a lot of power to operate that big compressor. You have to run your own power line to the toad. I also installed a diode to prevent back feed to the coach, and added a 20 amp fuse just in case the line shorted out somehwere. The power line keeps the toad fully charged so you're not DOA.
  • What year is your Focus?? Focus with auto transmission from 2012 thru 2014 have to have the battery disconnected while towing and the ignition in the off position. Actually once you disconnect the battery you can turn the ignition completely to the off position and remove the key. Follow the directions in the manual to get it tow ready, it can be a costly lesson if you don't.
  • Run a charge line from you MH to your toad. I use a diode in the line to isolate it.
  • Failed to mention have the Evan Brake brake system installed with the Roadmaster tow setup.
