Dental care prices, USA vs Mexico?

So I went to the dentist yesterday, and they want me back next week.

Total cost for xrays, exam, cleaning, and 3 fillings will be $850. 2 of the fillings are $95 and the 3rd is $284 or something. (I take great care of my teeth but have bad genes.)

I'll be in the southern US this winter. What do fillings cost in Mexico? I am wondering if I should wait till then...

  • From my experience with the dentists in Progresso, the cost is about 1/3 of what you would pay in the states. I have had extensive dental work done, root canals, crowns, and bridges in Mexico and have no problems. But I suggest that you get personal recommendations on a dentist. It is just like in the States, there are some that are not as good as others. The one that I use has better technology that the one I used to go to in the States and he is a graduate of a US dental college. Since we don't have dental insurance, it was a no brainer to look for a dentist in Mexico.
  • When I was a teenager, I had my uppers and lowers removed at the same time, and it was free. But it was pretty hard on the steering wheel when I wrapped my car around a telephone pole. I don't recommend the procedure.
  • old you are the one who is wrong. and yes we have been to them in Mexico. you are always so fast in jumping on the one to tell them they are wrong. you need to investigate a little more before you jump on the band wagon.

Couldn't be farther from the truth.

    USA Dental School Graduates
    High tech/state of art equipment
    Clean, upscale offices/exam rooms etc.

You haven't been to one have you?

    Agreed.
  • You will likely get lots of replies to this, many telling you that they wouldn't dare get medical/dental care in Mexico, but our experience was only positive. (And FWIW, we've had crummy dental care in the US, so it's not a country-specific problem.)

My husband needed (what was quoted to be) $10k in dental procedures in the US, which we absolutely did not have. We live in the PNW but it was worth it to him to fly to San Diego and go to Tijuana for dental care. I think the total cost ended up being about $2500. He would absolutely do it again.

Go to Dental Departures for details.
