I guess if you're one of the 123 million residents of Mexico you have some pretty bad dental work? - free_radicalExplorerIf anyone is close to Detroit I could recomend very good dentist in Windsor Ontario just across the river.
I have no insurance and pay about 400$ for a filing here,900$ for a crown and 800$ for a root canal..
There may be some cheaper dentists, but probably not much unless its some students training practicing their trade.
With US buck being worth quite a bit more here it maybe worthwhile considering. - HammerboyExplorer

So, Dan, how are you helping to fix the “ridiculously costly any type of healthcare is in the states?”
I'm fortunate enough to have good health insurance, all I said was I dont blame anyone for looking for alternatives. Any of us could be in that situation at anytime where we can or cannot afford it. I'm not smart enough to fix health care but if I'm in their situation I will look at and study everything I can.
Dan - K_and_IExplorerThat's some good information, folivier. My parents wintered in the West Texas valley for quite a few years and always got their dental work done in Mexico. They never had a bad experience.

I looked over the Medicare supplemental plans for dental and vision for a relative and in my opinion they are nothing but rip offs preying on the elderly. My relative has a great supplemental policy from Blue Cross that is a part of their government retirement. Medical coverage is beyond good. Vision, since it is the easiest to demonstrate here, had the following coverages and costs. Monthly fee $11.95. Benefits: one pair of Glasses, One Exam, One set of frames per year. Doesn't sound to bad. Now the fine print. Maximum benefit exam $35. Maximum benefit Lenses $35 Maximum benefit frames $30. That's $100 max for the cost of $143.40 per year. In the policies defense, it did offer 20 percent off additional services from their preferred providers. Though I have no doubt you could get that same discount without the plan by asking.
A Medicare supplement plan with dental may still be available for the lady.

Dental had a much more detailed list of services, but it had co-pays that pretty much mirrored the actual cost of the services. Things like a co-pay for a filling of $50.00. It's price was close to $30 a month. Then there were maximum benefits for the services the OP is needed that are a small fraction of the actual costs. My admittedly limited experience hasn't found a supplemental Medicare plan for anything other than medical that makes sense financially. - Cummins12V98Explorer IIIBottom line you don't have a clue how well they sanitize what goes into your mouth! You can't see the Lab or Sterilization rooms.
Since retiring I have no Dental coverage. I am within 2 hours of AlGadones during winter months and have seen the results of poor dentures that made the poor guy sound like Mr Ed. He said I need to go back tomorrow! I said no SH!T
This summer I broke off a tooth. Sat down they scanned my mouth they ground down the tooth and within a few minutes I had a perfect fit composition crown installed. YUP, $1,200 but well worth it to ME. In and out less than two hours. - LwiddisExplorer IIYes, Jerry, going elsewhere is the classic economic method. Unfortunately it’s not practical for most Americans and may not be safe.
- folivierExplorerHope you guys don't mind if I post some relevant information that could actually help the OP. I haven't been to Tijuana but have been to Los Algodones a few times for dental and have been much more pleased with the dentists there than any local dentists I've been to over the decades. It ain't just about money!

Now that I need another pulled I would consider going to MX to get them both taken care of, guessing around $6k. I would opt for something like Walmart if such existed in my neck of the woods, first I've heard of it.

Actually, I believe he is and more effectively than any legislation could. If enough people go elsewhere, the US market will get the message.
