Determining city to city distance

Mapquest when planning, WAZE (phone app) when traveling. There's also travelmath.com.

All good if you want to go the way they tell you to go.

We liked to travel the way WE want to go - secondary roads. Many times we've used the finger method on a paper map 1" == 15 miles or whatever. :)

Otherwise we use the Delorme mapping program which, unfortunately, is not being updated anymore. However, roads don't change much so it'll still be usable for us.

The distance and estimated time is placed on the right depending on the status of the road.

Where is the estimated time? Google Maps will give alternative routes and route backroads. Thanks for posting, but it really doesn't work very well, even considering it uses Google Maps as its routing source.

We use it regularly on the IPads. We open it and can see the places we would like to stop for the night, ussually 250-300 mile range.

Just set your parameters to "least use of highways" or whatever your particular set of guidelines is.

Except Siri gets confused sometimes. The BarnstaBle MA police department got a phone call from a woman looking for the BarnstaPle England police department. Voice recognition software has it's limits. GPS/phone systems also have their limitations if you are in an area where you can't get signal. We like having a paper back-up just in case.

I would download another road travel app if it gave additional info in real time otherwise I'd just just stick with systems pre-loaded into my OS.
