I have a trailer with dexter axles with 12X2 brakes. (I believe they are 6,200 pound axles???, they are on 10,000 pound registered trailer with upgraded axles)I just spent 1700 dollars at camping world to replace loaded backing plates and new drums.The brakes will not hold the trailer in place with the truck in gear at idle. They do not seem to have a clue as to the problem, I never left the dealership, It was pulled back into their shop and they have keep the trailer. I have not heard from them since (they are now closed)The magnets have been check with an ohm meter, a fully charged auto battery has been connected directly to wire leading directly to the brakes (eliminating brake away switch, brake controller etc)Brakes have been adjusted up and still you can hardly feel the effect of fully applied brakesI have two vehicles with brake controllers the trailer acts the same on both, I have two other trailers one vintage outlaw and the other a United (the united has dexter axles also) the brakes on those trailers work as they should on both vehicles HELP

That doesn't leave much but brake adjustment.

Check the wiring along the axles, some wires are routed inside axle and where they come out they can fray and create ground

I recently did my brakes. I found I had weak brakes until I put a couple hundred miles on the new brakes.I believe the shoes have to wear so they have the same curvature as the drums.

Must have been really pricey brake drums. E-trailer sells those brake assemblies for $55.00 each.

WOW.....

Just heard from Mark of Good Sam Care Team

He supplied his personal number with the request I not publish it which I will not.

He listened to the story and has told me he will personally contact the store VP to work for a resolution.

He has asked for two days to make that happen.

Based on his input I feel much better now.

Imho, you can request the original parts to be replaced on your trailera d the labor charged commiserate with the troubleshooting and wiring repairs.

I don't think you can reasonably expect to be refunded the price AND keep the parts.

I do not believe you should be required to pay excessive labor to make up for the mistake.

You might make headway by offering to pay for the parts (new does have value, even if prematurely replaced), but request significant labor reduction.

It's easier to give concessions out of labor differential (profit) and accept break even, rather than paying out of pocket and allowing the customer to profit.

Tim just offered to refund the money for the drums and backing plates....IF....I.....remove the parts they installed and return them to him. That is worth 700 dollars of the 1700 repair bill.

In the middle of that conversation their phone went dead and was unable to respond. Just now got through again and left a message for Tim to call back.

I think they should refund the entire bill, and then create a new bill for the work that fixed the problem. If they want their parts back they should removed them and put my parts back at no cost.

Problem is I do not trust their level of expertise now. All I need is for a wheel to come off going down the highway.

Here's one suggestion:

Call them up and get the name of the tech that did the work, the service manager and the owner or store manager. Tell them you need these names in order to file a fraud claim with the attorney general (or whatever law enforcement entity you choose).

It seems to be that by doing work that is unnecessary, then admitting that it was unnecessary, and refusing to refund all costs for the unnecessary part of the work (including labor), they have admitted to fraud.

Thought I would post some pictures of the backing plates and drums, I have been offered a refund on the drums and backing plates,

I have cleaned up the backing plates and put a coat of paint on them, drums are as they were except they have been sitting out in the rain.

There is also a picture of the wiring that was pulled out.

I have now received a call back from the service manager, he wanted to refund the cost of the drums, I told him I did not think that was appropriate, I thought he should refund the entire bill and then charge me what it would have cost to replace the breakaway switch and replace the bad wiring.

He said the best he would do is refund the drums and backing plates, that means I would be paying 1000 dollars to fix the problem of the break away switch and wiring.

The connection was broken and now I cannot connect to Camping Workd in Churchville NY

I would also request an itemized invoice and find out where the extra $500 is being charged and question the about it.

Remember, we pay a premium for the knowledge of the service techs. We do NOT pay them to learn. Sure, they do learn from experience, just like the rest of us, but the overages for that are between them and their employer. It doesn't automatically get passed on to the customer- at least it shouldn't.

I agree that is what happened, now CW has to do the right thing. This may be harder than finding the real problem

Sounds like the original tech assigned to the job had no idea what was really wrong and just replaced everything. CW should reimburse you for everything in my opinion. They have caused you a lot of problems and are supposed to have real tech's. Not part's swappers.
