DH had open heart surgery yesterday

He's done pretty well. Got off the ventilator this morning, which is quite an accomplishment itself since his lungs are so bad. The heart is getting stronger. DH is eating a very little bit and drinking well. It's been hard to stay on top of the pain; he's resistant to taking the pain meds. He says they don't help, but actually he has no sense of time. He's mad at all the nurses because they're making him do things, like pull himself up in bed and get out of bed and into the chair, LOL.

He'll probably go to Step Down in the morning. I'm sure they are going to walk his legs off before discharge.

  • Did they go in through the side or cut through the sternum? My wife is due for a heart mitrial valve replacement in the middle of next month.
