Dicor equivalent?

Here I am in paradise (Oahu) and no Dicor to be found. I'm driving a friend's Izuzu and it's raining in the cargo area. I suspect the water is entering thru the roof rack attachments but there is no way I'm going to remove them. My buddy is not an RVer so I suggested a tube of magic: Dicor! Off to the local hardware store. They've never heard of it. Same with Home Depot and Lowes. There were many other products by DAP but I (and the staff) have no idea of what is equivalent to Dicor. I found a Marine store that swears by this. It looks like it seals and stops leaks internally, but I want insurance with a little goop on top. Any ideas?

  • I'd suggest to go to the Marine dealer and get some hull caulk. What side of the Island are you on?
  • Marine caulking will do the job, do not use silicone based sealers, they do not stick and eventually water seeps in.

  • If you are talking about Oahu Hawaii...there must be some boats around..and thus some marine supply outfits....

  • Find a roofing contractor. Rubber(epdm) roofing material is quite common on commercial flat roofs. Eternabond tape if you can find it. Or also look for ProFlex.
  • This is why I keep frequenting this forum! I have spent many hours researching sealants etc. but I have never heard of Capt. Tolley's! For your intended use it just might do the trick!

As far as easy access caulk/sealants, there are many good ones to choose from! Personally I would stay away from a silicone and use a polyurethane, tri-polymer, or polyether type sealant.
