We add cetane booster to our smart cars every fill up. Makes a noticeable difference but not a huge difference. They run quieter and as you noticed it seems to eliminate the diesel smell. Many folks with european diesels add a little cetane booster to their tank. VW's Mercedes, etc. European diesel is a little different.
