Mine runs on Jet A exclusively, has since it was new. No smell, no smoke or soot, lights instantly and really throws off heat.
It's also waaaay cheaper than kerosene.
Jet A ??? What is Jet A ? Airplane jet fuel? If so where can you purchase something like that? Thanks.
Most airports will have waste fuel. Maybe they will sell it to the public, maybe not. Some might just give it away. when I worked on turboprop aircraft many years ago, one of the pilots wanted us to save the waste fuel in his personal 5 gallon cans. He used it in his diesel powered Suburban.
The FBO we worked with put their waste fuel in the fuel tanks of their fuel trucks and tugs.
However, before putting any such stuff in a heater where you will be breathing the fumes, it might be a good idea to check the MSDS of what you are using. It just might be that breathing the products of combustion would be unhealthy.
For instance, waste jet fuel from an airport will likely have Prist in it. http://www.chemcas.com/msds112/cas/273/109-86-4_v1.asp
Prist is almost straight Diethylene Glycol Monomethyl Ether. It's mixed at a ratio of 0.1% to 0.15% by volume.
Glycol based solvents aren't a big issue, and with a maximum burn rate of 1/2 gallon an hour even maximum dosing means 3/4 ounce in 8 hours running time, and that's spread over the entire volume of air in the building, assuming there's no leaks, drafts or other change over of air.
