I'm sorry for this, but I just waded through NINE PAGES of this thread, and NOT ONCE, ANYWHERE does the OP state what is actual handling issues are! The only mention of a handling issue is the push-pull with passing semis, which is *NORMAL*. No sway, either. Not to mention the OP is admittedly "driving scared" due to witnessing a horrific accident involving a travel trailer...
The problem is as yet undefined, so how can we have NINE PAGES of solutions???
So WHAT, EXACTLY is the problem?
VERY frustrating to say the least...
I will be clear, I am not scared driving. I just wanted to make the point that I am apprehensive of adding weight to the rear as I have seen the cause and effect of unrecoverable sway due to poor weight distribution.
As far as the comments about semis, it is irrelevant and I didn’t bring it up as part of my problem. Somebody asked me how it reacts around semis, and I answered what it does and that it’s predictable, no issue. I’ve towed closed car haulers, and they do the same thing. Used to it.
I’m a bit confused with your position that I’ve failed to identify the problem to your guys. My problem is very clear, the trailer, no matter what I’ve done tows poorly. Yes, that is generic. It feels like the rear end of the truck is not stable. It is difficult to maintain a straight line at highway speeds even in minimal wind. I’ve shared all of my specs, accurate weights, admitted my errors on weight assumptions for current hitch selection, and I’ve admitted that I didn’t know I should be adjusting truck tire pressure. Overall, I think there was a great consensus amongst the feedback of what I needed to focus on, and I’m grateful for most of the feedback I’ve seen.
I asked for suggestions to improve weight balance as I am coming in at 17% tongue weight. The group seemed to say leave it alone and get a higher rated hitch, which I have now. Then the focus on tires/pressures became a discussion point. I will be changing that when I set up my hitch today.
So with that all said, what is your recommendation to help on my problem? Despite your obvious frustration with my post/information, I am all ears and welcome any suggestions.
