Dinghy Towing 2008 Ford Edge FWD

We are interested in purchasing a Ford edge for dinghy towing behind our motorhome. Does anyone have any pros or cons about this vehicle for flat towing?
  • Our 2014 Edge Limited was a dream toad as well as my daily driver. We just retired it with about 165K miles. Ours required towing in aux key position & was an energy pig so I had a charge line. I later learned from another forum member how to tow it with key in off position and that made towing even better. Overall very high marks.
  • We tow a 2013 Explorer 4WD. No issues. Easy to tow, just shift to N. no need to disconnect a battery.
  • We have towed a 2008 Edge AWD for over ten years with no issues.
  • We have a 2008/ Taurus X, FWD which Inbelieve is the same as the Edge. We have towed ours, 4 - down, over 80,000 miles all over the country trouble free. Follow the directions in the owners manual when towing. Never had any dead battery issues.
  • Will be watching this thread as I am considering the Ford Edge in the 2011 to 2014 range. According to the Motorhome Mag. Dinghy towing guide they are OK to tow 4-down as long as you run the engine for 5 minutes or so every 6 hours.

HERE'S the link to the guide.
