Dinghy Towing Help – 2011 Honda CRV

Hello all!

The wife and I are getting set up for full-time RV life starting this month. I would love to tap into the wisdom of you seasoned RV’ers to confirm that our current set up is not missing anything (as you may remember, as a beginner it can be tough to be sure you have all you need to travel safely). We are concerned with our dinghy set up; we are towing a 2011 Honda CRV:

Roadmaster XL Base Plate
Roadmaster Falcon All-Terrain Tow Bar
Even Brake Supplemental Braking System
Magnetic Brake/Turn Lights

What we would love to confirm is whether this set-up is missing anything. And if any of you have toad a Honda CRV, is there anything else we should be aware of?

Thank you all so much, looking forward to anything you would like to share!

Randy & Sarah
  • Go with the magnetic tail lights . If you have ever had to fix the wiring after a shorted diode it is not fun.
  • I don't know if I would be using magnetic brake lights. I installed diodes in my 99 Honda CRV and my current car, it is pretty easy.

I ran a 4 wire from the front to the back, under the carpet, into the space near the left turn signal. Then under the back end from one side to the other. I cut the wire going to the yellow turn signal and installed the diode. It has two inputs and one output. Output goes to the light, one input from the motorhome one from the car.

Then your lights will be set up all the time, and all you need to do is plug in and go. No worry about the light falling off the car, or anything else.

    Fred.
