Where are you? Canada did away with imperial gallons years ago. - I stop where convenient for me fuel up and head down the road.. we also pay our cards off in full each month...
We have not paid interest on CC's in many years... It's a nice place to be and I a thankful for being able to do so. - ivbinconnedExplorer IIWell this turned into a big discussion.
I could and should have added this.
I use gasbuddy app. And my capacity is total 100 imperial gals. - wa8yxmExplorer III

We r heading south. Do any stations give discounts if we pay for fuel with cash?
Some do, Some do not. Some states discourage it. Some do not. Around where I am (Oconee County South Carolina) Many but not all do.
And some states if you use a debit cart it's same as cash but a credit card gets the higher price. (Confused yet.. I am)
Why?
The card companies usually are billed through a clearing house this house charges a percentage as does the card issuer. and if it's a credit card you also get charged.. So it's a win-win-win for the Money Bags and not so much for you.
ON the other hand if you stick your card in the slot it's less employee time for the station and that benefits the employer (the station) since he can get by with fewer clerks so .....
Normally I prefer to deal with humans. Gas stations are the exception I don't mind self serve gas. - rk911Explorer

If you consider driving even 10 miles to save gas money then you may need to travel less or earn more. Or rethink your spending habits.
If you have to go 50 miles out of your way then you've spent more than you've saved. It's like adding extra miles to get out of paying a toll.
I'm lucky, I don't even give a thought to what I'm paying for fuel. It's all about the same.
I'm the same. I stop where it's convenient regardless of price. - Cummins12V98Explorer IIII owe no one anything! I use others money. Pay my bill every month in Full.

That's assuming you pay off the credit card immediately and don't pay interest. It's just common sense-if the discount is better, pay cash. If not, use credit but make sure you pay it off.
Even if they do it doesn't add up to a hill of beans. You're better off just looking for the cheapest gas.
X2. Of course this is also dependent on what size fuel tank you have and how fuel efficient your vehicle is. If you have to go 50 miles out of your way then you've spent more than you've saved. It's like adding extra miles to get out of paying a toll. - Eric_LisaExplorer II

It always appeared to me that you don't get a discount for cash, you're just not charged extra for using a credit card. But I guess you could spin it and say that that's a discount.;)
Quickly venturing out of the OP's topic.... But I have found many small businesses will give a discount for cash. I just have to ask. And the discount can be significant if they are someone I know and I tell them I don't need a receipt. How they do their accounting is their business, not mine.
Staying on the OP's topic.... There are many factors involved here:
- Credit card fees charged to the gas station and passed on to the consumer.
- Immediate funds access by the gas station - cash in hand to pay bills, so they discount the price.
- Credit card reward points.
- Credit card interest fees if not paid in full.
- Risks associated with carrying cash (being robbed of all the cash in hand).
- Risks associated with using cards (card skimmers & theft of all the money in your bank account).
- Personal privacy, having your buying habits tracked & sold.
I think this discussion could go on indefinitely with pros & cons on each side. How the math adds up on each side of the equation varies from person to person. For me it is the value of privacy and anonymity to not be tracked by businesses.

Savin Nickels by spendin Dollars. Gotta love it.
Park at the pump. Walk into the store and wait in line while Bubba buys his lottery tickets. Hand the cashier some cash to get the pump turned on. Go back out and pump the fuel. Go back in and wait for Larry to pay for his hotdogs. Get your change.
Might I suggest leave the rig sit there at the pump and order 6 hot dogs prepared 3 different ways?
