Do any of you use those Bumper hitch racks?

I just got & installed mine yesterday & I guess its ok.
Yet realize I'm gonna meet to use some sorta flags to remember that it it down & that it sticks out so far in front of my rig.

& I'm gonna have to get some straps to hold it firmly against my grill guard being this thing will drive me nuts the ways it will rock about with no load on it.

Have you guys liked yours?
did you use any sort of indicators so make sure you saw that it was down & you don't hit something with it?
  • Years ago My dad had a cab over camper on a pick up. We towed a boat. He installed a window unit ac and he had a rack built like yours on the front for a generator. This was in 1970.The rack had two connection points that bolted up under the bumper to the front of the truck frame, Nice and solid had a trailer hitch on front to. We would get to the lake and unhook boat from rear and hook it on front then just drove forward down the ramp to launch. Then just back back up ramp after launch. He missed his calling , should have patened it back then. He was ahead of his time. Campers just slid into the bed of the truck at that time. Not any side storage like there is today. He said the Ac and generator was so Mamma would go with us, and she did.Fishing with my dad and boyscouts is why I still camp and travel in Mo HO today. You have a nice looking setup.

To answer your (thread) question - No.

IMO - kinda defeats (at least some) of your 4x4 capability.

But - whatever rings your chimes.

    LOL!!

Having a Lance 900 mounted on my 4x4 already KILLED my 4X4 capabilities!

The only reason I got the 4X4 truck for this was for desert & beach & snow camping.

Yet during the labor day weekend I did camp at the Hollister Hills OHV park & did do some minor off roading, NOT fun even without a front bumper rack.

& If I ever went hunting or something the rack can hold my dear or hog etc...

This will solve your rocking problem Clicky, or this Clicky.

Thanks for that link, looks interesting & I will look into that.

The only reason I got this rack was for fire wood more than anything else.
before I got this I use to fill every spare compartment with fire wood till it could not take any more.

this will open up a lot of space for me in all my compartments.

My Geni is already factory mounted in the Camper.

I used a rear hitch rack to hold my wife's scooter for quite some time. Alas, no longer have wife or need scooter so it's gone now.

Before we got a towed.. I would pick up that 250 lb scooter and set it on the rack,, fully assembled, was easier than breaking it down for easier lifting.
  • Frankly: If you have to have a rack like that on the front of your pickup, you're probably hauling too much stuff. Not a flame, but realistically I'm betting that you could inventory and find a lot more stuff you aren't using and eliminate it and have room for the stuff you would carry up front.

  • Install some rods with a red tip on them. auto antenna comes to mind, and put some kind of antenna ball on them. Ha! works for me . You could screw the antenna on when needed and removed when not.
