Do you drain your hot water tank?
Just wondering if you drain your hot water tank after each trip out or if you leave water in the tank when you will be using it in a couple of weeks? Does this cause any problems with water left in the tank?

nope and nope. we drain the tank at the end of the season. been doing that since we started this RV thing in 1986 with no ill effects to us or the hot water tank.- Only drain for winter. No problems. However, some people only have water that WILL stink, so they need to drain.

Think about it ... if you drain the water heater tank which is part of your rig's pressurized water system that means you're going to have to re-pressurize the entire system before the next use, and the next after that, and after that, and after that, and ....... :R Why go through all that grief? :S Like many others I sanitize and pressurize our rig's water system at the beginning of the season and it remains that way until I winterize for storage ... only if some life event caused us to leave the trailer dormant for months at a time would I otherwise consider draining the system. I also always carry some content in the fresh water holding tank throughout the entire season so we can use the water system anytime, anywhere we want, whether camping or not. Those experiencing unpleasant water odours don't have a water system problem but a water source problem ... correct that and there's no reason to empty an RV's pressurized water system during the camping season.- No, just at the end of the season. No problems with smell.

A few years ago son-in-law did not drain his on the travel trailer. it set for about a month or longer with water in the hot water tank. then when they went to use the trailer again, it took a long time to get the bad smell out of the water. - I drain at the end of the camping year. I also run cold water through it when done with the camping trip. I make sure it is turned off then run cold water through it to transfer a lot of the hot out and I have not had any ill effects when doing it this way.
- Been RVing 25 years and ain't never drained one . Why would you drain it , do you also empty the water tank?
- We use our camper every weekend from May 1st to Oct 15th. Our CG uses its own wells, and we never have any smell even after a hot humid week.
If my rig was sitting unused for several weeks, I'd drain it. - We have well water (non-chlorinated), so we drain the hot water tank and fresh water tank if we aren't going to be camping within 2-3 weeks.
