We never did that but we didn't have any family close to leave them with. I don't see anything wrong with it...All parent's need a break from time to time and I'm sure Grandma will love to have them for a few days! The kids will get over being "ditched"! (Our kids did go to Grandma's for a week in the summer but we were both working, not on a trip.)
