I love my fiver but the ceiling fan is merely a decoration. It doesn't matter at what speed and which direction it turns there is virtually NO airflow beneath the blades. I can put my hand inches from the blades and...nothing! I believe I read somewhere that the distance of the blades from the ceiling makes a difference. I guess my fan was installed at the wrong distance. This is a minor gripe but I wonder if some of you other folks have noticed the same thing.

Mine does not move air either. I have found it moves the most in reverse (blowing up) and running on low. My fan is installed in the rear of the trailer where the ceiling is the lowest and their is very little distance between the blades and ceiling. My previous unit had the fan in the front of the lower area and it was about 12 inches from the ceiling and it moved more air. As you said, it is strictly decorative.

My previous fiver had a ceiling fan and it helped a little but not as much as the ones in my house. I do believe the distance from the ceiling to the blades has an effect on the fan. Is yours mounted as low as it can be in the fiver due to slideout or ceiling height etc? If not, maybe you could add an extension rod to lower it somewhat. I know that Home Depot, Lowes etc sell fan parts. Whether they would fit your particular fan is another question but may be worth checking into.

I found this thread most interesting for selfish reasons. I'm putting two large fans on the ceiling of my new garage and I found the information here very enlightening toward helping me install mine.

Just measured our ceiling fan 6" clearance keep it on year round on low and get plenty of circulation.

Try replacing it with a unit that has an extension to give it more ceiling clearance, the blades really need to be roughly a foot from the ceiling.

We never use ours because of the horrible mess it makes on the ceiling. If we had thought about it, we would have eliminated it when we ordered our 5th wheel. So ours is just something to dust.

A very common complaint: There is no way the vast amount of air ( yes anywere up to 1000 cfm) can move with only 5to7 inches of space between the blades and the ceiling. Maybe even less. Either drop the fan (kinda hard with a STUPID ceiling hugger )or replace it with one that has a downrod. Around 11 inches from blade to ceiling would be the minumum for good performance. i know. I've installed thousands of fans and never liked the ceiling huggers. and in most cases there was no need for them. a precieved notion that they MIGHT hit their heads on the blades.

Man I hate to say this, but you have no idea what you're talking about. Air going (or not going) into the motor has no effect on the air being moved inside the trailer. It might at some point overheat the motor but that is not the question. The original post did not say anything about a "light problem." If you folks can't answer the original question why not just move on?

Man the op asks a simple question and gets beat up because his fan is dirty. The clenleness of the fan has nothing to do with wether it moves air or not. Tough crowd.:?

With all the dirt and dust present on the blade, bulbs and fan housing, I would hate to see the rest of the pig pen trailer. it might be a good thing not to have any air moving.
