- Canadian_RainbiExplorerWe were stopped once because the bike on the toad's rack partially hid the licence plate. No ticket, just a warning.

You mean Florida requires backup when pulling over someone?? Our county deputies and state troopers pull people over all the time and don't have backup! Even in the middle of the night.pigman1 wrote:

Yeah, and you probably won't get stopped if you continue using your current setup for another 9 years. That's just reality. LEO's have a lot more important things to do than check plate lights on RV toads that drive 99% of their time in daylight. That said, there's always a chance that you'll hit the LEO that's having a really bad day and is looking for the first violation he/she can find. They're only human too. But you've probably got pretty high odds leaning your way.
Never thought about that. We use magnetic LED lights so I know there is not a light on the plate. We have towed for nine years without being stopped but that does not make it right.
Not only that, one squad car would really hate pulling over rigs such as these and would probably require backup to even approach the driver, considering all the possible hidden dangers that could exist within. - tropical36Explorer

- j-dExplorer IIWhen we had older, simpler Toads, I wired right into the Left Front Park/Turn/Running Lights. With the Coach Head/Running lights on, the whole Toad lit up. Front and Rear Running Lights, Tag Light, even the Dashboard.
In Turn, both the Front and Rear Turn signals (amber) flashed. But those also were came on in Stop. However, the Brake Buddy put Red Right, Left, and Third Brake Lights on, too. - okgcExplorerNone of the toads with magnet mounted lights would have license plate lights
- MedicoExplorer IINo it does not.
- DyngbldExplorerMy utility trailer doesn't have a plate light. Didn't come with one. Not sure it is a requirement, I never gave it any thought till now. I am not sure the camper does, I will have to go check in the morning. THANKS something else to worry about! :)

Does your toad's license plate light up while being towed at night?
My signature has our setup: Blue Ox taillight bulbs. Blue Ox does not supply separate bulb wiring kit for toad license plate, thus dark at night.
Is it enough that our motorhome's license plate is lit?
With warm regards, James
James,
It is basically the states call and rules where you live. In CA, if it's on the street, and it has a license plate, it must be lit. Whether you actually have it lit up or not, is up to you. You can get away with anything, until YOU GET CAUGHT!
I see you tow an '11 CRV. Well, you've already got the "extra" bulbs wired in but, when we had our '11 CRV, I wired it using the stock tail light bulbs and a couple of cheap, Radio Shack diodes. When I was done wiring it, the tail lights acted the same exact way, towing it, as they do driving it. And that includes the third brake light and the amber turn signals, oh and the license plate light. So, if you're concerned about getting caught, you can simply tie into one of your extra bulbs wires and run it to the license plate light wires and "tee" into that wire.
But, unless you use a diode in that separate circuit, you'll then be feeding that entire "extra bulb" setup when driving the CRV, from the license plate light. Not good. So, your choice.
