Don't you just love it when you take your RV diesel pusher in for service to have the front brakes checked. Then at closing time you get a message from the service manager stating he would like me to come in at 8 am and show me some things! I need brake pads on both sides and a left front caliper replaced. Then he says he wants to show me what we are up against and show me some numbers. Geez. Is this guy upbeat, or what?

That Beaver must be a great old bus. Fix 'er up and motor on down the road.

I would get second opinion. Sounds like a way of getting in your pocket!What chassis? Memory serves that the Beavers have air brakes.

I like it when a service manager wants to show me the issues with my TV and/or TT instead of just telling me over the phone.

Sounds like a decent shop that wants to let you know what they're going to do before they do it. Some shops dig into the work first and then let you know about any issues after they get started.

Just brought my old MH from the shop yesterday. Still not over the $$$. I do most of my work but what I thought was a bad water pump was a bad hose. At 70 the pain of making that repair was too much plus some other issues were taken care of after they asked permission.

I agree. There may be more to it than just doing pads and rotors. Maybe rusted parts? So instead of telling you and you wondering if he just made it up, he would rather show you so you both know it was shown and explained properly.

The Beaver is 17 yrs. old so you might need to eyeball the air bags and suspension parts/bushings. Staying on top of maintenance will prevent a break-down 95% of the time (hopefully).

Well we either have to do it ourselves or hire it done:B I find as I get older when I do it myself I pay a lot more in pain and suffering with body aches and strains than the dollars spent.

Exactly. Not all shops are crooked. He may be doing you a huge favor by pointing out that a little preventive maintenance now could save a lot later. I'd be way more suspicious of someone who just told you over the phone rather than inviting you in to show you.

I would rather have them call me and walk me through what they find instead of just performing the work I have it for. Then find our down the road something went wrong that could of been taken care of.

It is horrible being broken down on the side of a highway waiting for help for 4.5 hrs.
Been there done that not fun.
