Drive safe! (Moab)

There was an rv accident about 1 mile south of the Dead Horse Point turnoff on US-191 just where the road starts to go downhill (the long descent into Moab).

After waiting for awhile parked on the road, the highway patrol let traffic go by and at first we couldn't figure out what it was that was smashed and finally it clicked that it was an RV!

They had a dump truck there and they were unloading a large front loader from a trailer so they could load the wreck into the dump truck.

I couldn't tell if it was a TT or a 5th wheel -- no tow vehicle in the area that I could see but it wasn't a motorhome. They must have compacted the wreckage to contain it so they could get it in the dump truck.

  • There was an accident involving a MH and an SUV on US 98 in Florida, between Newport and Perry on March 1. The westbound SUV crossed the center line and hit the eastbound RV head on. The driver of the SUV died at the scene, the folks in the MH were not injured. We did not stay to rubber neck, but I felt awful for them. lizzie
  • Worst scene ever 8 or so years ago. Route 80 in NJ major congestion zone mp 28 to 48. ClassA rollover and disintegrate, two rust colored dobermans thrown from the wreckage and roaming on the highway.
  • It is not uncommon for a RV to totally disintegrate in an accident depending upon how it rolled or was hit. Seen many over the years that just looked like debris fields. They just scoop them up in a dumpster.

I've seen a couple of those. Not a pretty sight.

I know that stretch of road. We spent 2 weeks in Moab in our RV in Sept 2012.
