Yep. Short and to the point. - Jayco-noslideExplorerMy apologies for some of the replies that blew you and your question off or made fun of it. Rude.
- Jayco-noslideExplorerI've run out refrig on the road on propane ever since we've had an RV with a refrig; 25 years. I can't imagine not having it on because ours is always going to be full of food and to not have it on would eliminate one of the huge pluses of having an RV. No doubt there is a tiny danger of having the burner exhaust right up against a gas pump but I've never heard of such a fire. Have encountered a couple of tunnels and ferrys that require the valve be turned off.

/end of debate - LwiddisExplorer III do it all the time (‘78 to present) but do turn it off to meet tunnel rules. Gasoline is much more dangerous. Operation underway assures there are sufficient ice cubes for cocktail hour.

Same here!
Same here! - TrackrigExplorer IIYES, you can drive with the refer, furnace, hot water heater and generator running on LP without a problem.

I'd like to know what RVers think of driving down the highway with the fridge using gas power. I've always thought that this may be a safety issue, if not a legal one. Thoughts?
not illegal except going thru *some* tunnels where the LP gas supply must be shut down. not unsafe in and of itself but if you think it is then it is. if your fridge is sufficiently cold and you severely limit openings it should be fine for 6-8 hours depending on the outside ambient temps. most all of us with RV fridges run them with LP while driving. some of us turn them off when fueling, some don't. when we had an RV fridge I always turned if off when fueling and I think that's the prudent thing to do but some may disagree. - Old-BiscuitExplorer IIIRV Propane systems have safety features...
Your propane cylinders have a spring loaded shutoff valve inside the OPD valve
The BIG Green ACME Nut has to be attached to open that spring loaded valve otherwise no propane can flow,
The ACME nut has a thermal bushing that melts in high temps (Fire) and allows the spring loaded valve in OPD to close...no propane flow
The ACME Nut has an Excess Flow Trip check valve ....bust a line downstream and it trips limiting amount of propane that can flow
Propane system is only operated at 0.4 PSI you can whistle harder
then that
Propane air/fuel ratio is critical for propane to burn. (2.1 to 9.5 range)
Too much air.......No explosion
Too much fuel......No explosion
IF the propane system is NOT safe to use when in transit I would NOT trust it when I am stationary and asleep :S
