Sound level ratings are calculated on a logarithmic scale so "only" 5 db difference is HUGE. :E Secondly, that open frame Champ is a synchronous motor design, meaning it runs at just one speed, full tilt, all the time regardless of load whereas an inverter genset's speed varies with load, the lighter the load the lower the speed so the less noise it makes. You really need to decide first just what it is you want to power, then decide how to best achieve that goal.
