What kind of electrical service do you have at this time? Does it have circuit breakers or fuses.? What is make of the panel? What type of heat do you have? What type of water heater? What type of clothes dryer?
Even if you have all electric and a 200 amp service you will not need to upgrade. You must be getting information from one of the "electricians" that needs work. Don't trust that info!
Right.. Load calculations are based on factors other than the sum of the Circuit Breakers in the panel.. You can add as many breakers and sub panels to a Service as you like as long as you don't exceed the Size of the Service itself.. We try to stay below 80% of the service size.. Any more than that and you risk the chance of tripping the Main, be it 60, 100, 150, 200, or 320/400 for a normal residential service..
Bottom line is we need more info in order to give you real good advice..
