I've had several visitors with 50 amp RVs park at my house with a 30 amp outlet. If any of them requires more juice, I can point them down the road to a campground that will supply it. so far, no takers.

Sounds like you have a "real" 30A outlet. Not sure what the op is trying to gain. Install a true 30A outlet it will be even less money than what he is talking about and just use a 50-30 dogbone.
