The above photo from John got me wondering just how much force is required to drag a loaded WD bar up and over the outside cam as the TV turns.
I prepared the following free body diagram to see how much tension is required in the WD bar to make the bar slide.
The analysis also calculates how much compression is generated in the cam bar and gives some surprising results for how much chain tension is produced.
My analysis assumes the WD bar produces a downward force of 500#. I tried to make the diagram self-explanatory. Let me know if you have questions.
