Campgrounds could hardly care less (or even have any way of knowing) if you are using the two legs of a 50A connection as a single 240V circuit or as a pair of 120V circuits. It's just consuming electricity.
Many (most?) RV generators are 120V only, which is one very good reason to go with a 120V version. As you say, 30A campsites are also 120V only, which is another very good reason to go with the 120V version.
