Duramax 6.6L Oil Pressure

I just bought a 2006 Chevy 2500 with a Duramax 6.6L Diesel. Being my first diesel I have a question about Oil pressure. My old truck Vortec held oil pressure level at all RPMs at around 50lbs. My Duramax oil pressure goes from around 20psi at Idle to about 60psi at 2000 rpms. Is this normal?

Thanks

Buster
  • Exactly what our 06 Duramax does.. At first it kind of freaked me out, but it's what it does.
  • Maybe your old vortec was like my current Ford. It don't matter what the conditions the gauge is steady on the same spot all the time.

Guess it is kinda unnerving to see the actual pressure.
  • Ford service guy told me he could bend the needle a bit if I didn't like the reading.
  • 65 when cold at idle, 30 when its hot. Don't know if it's normal but it's been that way for almost 13 years.

Wonderful to see oil pressure gauge that actually works. Unlike the Ford idiot gauge in my E450. Points to exactly the same place, hot or cold fast or slow.
