DVD player died. Should we go blue ray ?

Are there any recommendations on one that might handle being bounced around better than others ? Are there any brands you liked or hated ?

Any Blu-ray player (well, any I've ever come across) will also play DVDs (and, for that matter, CDs).

If you don't have and won't be getting an HDTV, there isn't a whole lot of reason to prefer the Blu-ray IMHO, though maybe eventually it will become hard to find things on DVD. On the other hand, there's not a whole big reason to avoid one, also. Do make sure that it has appropriate connections for your TV--e.g. a player with only HDMI out would be less than useful with a TV that lacks an HDMI input.

I would think that if the OP carries a collection like ours, over 200 DVD's, this would be a must.

Think I paid $50 for a Walmart Blu-Ray player. Has HDMI, so a single plug and play into the $150 Walmart flat screen..

Both the TV and the player ride in the travel trailer, so they get bounced around I'm sure..

Work fine. If not, I'll just get a replacement at the local Walmart of where ever we are.. They seem to be everywhere we are!

With that many DVD’s, you should consider a digital solution. One hard drive and a media player for all of them.

I bought a cheap Blue Ray player from WalMart. I think I paid $40? We’ve had it now for 4 years. Even better would be a WiFi Blue Ray palyer thay could stream stuff like Netflix.

Be careful with the antique VHS player. They no longer make them and the only way you can buy one it to get it used. There is a place in Minneapolis that will transfer your tapes on to disks for 30 bucks a copy. I'm going to have it done to a few of mine someday but, Minneapolis is 130 miles from me.
