Easiest to handle WD/sway control system?

The Hensley (or ProPride) stinger isn't very heavy - about 20 lbs. The heavy part remains mounted to the trailer full time. I used to use an Equalizer. They work well, but really are heavy.

You could knock a few pounds off by cutting off the unused portion of the shank.

Sure, hitch handles may help but weight is weight and for some of us the lighter the hitch head & shank the better. :B I've recently begun storing our trailer at a nearby conservation area where we also camp frequently and to that end just today bought a simple shank & hitch ball to use for moving the trailer from the lot to the campsite, which will be much easier on my back than having to mount a heavy WD head.

I made a handle that slips onto the hitch shank. With the handle I can easily carry the heavy hitch with one arm hanging straight down and my back relatively straight. Without a handle you need to hold the hitch out away from you with both hands and often with your back arched. There is a handle available that carries the hitch by the ball for insertion into the receiver, but I also can insert the ball into the coupler and latch it and apply a lock. The advantages of this is that the ball stays clean, the hitch is about the right height to handle and the trailer has some protection from theft as well as the hitch.

I wouldn't give any consideration at all to so-called negative comments you may have read about the Andersen No-Sway Hitch, particularly for a smaller trailer as you're intending to purchase. It's a well engineered system and just because some don't understand how it works doesn't mean that it's not effective. Hands down, it's the lightest WD system available and if you find it difficult to pick up an Equal-i-zer head you'd find it difficult to pick up any other WD head except the Andersen. IMO it's the no-brainer answer for those looking for an especially light weight system. Gotta say, now in my 7th decade I'm finding my Reese head awfully heavy and getting heavier every day :W and am seriously considering replacing it with an Andersen for that reason alone.

Just a thought. When we towed our '95 1850 Aljo Deluxe TT with our '94 F150, we used just a ball on a receiver. Two of my cousins tow their 24 and 26' travel trailers with their GM 2500HD and F250 pickups on the ball with no WD or sway control. With enough truck and not too much trailer, this could be an option.

I've used this type of cart at my work and they are very effective.

Just wondered if anyone has used one of these for maneuvering a hitch head. Minimum height is 8 inches, which would work, depending on tow vehicle. Seems a person could get the hitch head positioned and not have to lift it much at all.

I don't want to keep the hitch head in ALL the time, although that's an option if absolutely necessary. Good way to bust a shin on it. Also, on vehicles with a proximity alarm, it causes a continuous loud annoying beep when backing up. At least it does on a F150/Equalizer combo, which is what my boyfriend has.

If you are concerned about the weight of the hitch....don't go for a Blue Ox SwayPro. It's a great hitch but he hitch head unit is really heavy.
